Special issue on "Ageing and Culture"

Special Issue Editor/ Associate Editor: Isabelle Albert (University of Luxembourg)
Editors-in-Chief: Frieder R. Lang (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany) and Johannes Pantel (Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany)

Population ageing and migration are key issues in many societies today. Despite globalisation and cultural contact, ageing remains a highly diverse experience across cultures that still differ in their views and expectations with respect to ageing and late life. This becomes particularly evident regarding ideas about positive ageing and old age provision, also expressed in different policies and extent of state provision for old-age.

We are announcing a special issue on "Ageing and Culture" to be published in early 2020. We expect original manuscript submissions that evidence high quality, innovative work on cultural aspects of ageing incorporating approaches from the behavioural and social sciences such as (cross-)cultural psychology, developmental lifespan psychology, medical anthropology and ethnology, social gerontology as well as interdisciplinary contributions.

We invite authors to submit original research reports, review articles, as well as conceptual papers that advance scientific understanding of cultural aspects of ageing. Potential topics include but are not limited to research on ageing in different cultural contexts or in light of migration with regard to preparations for later life, old-age care and assistance, regulation of subjective well-being, intergenerational relations and social networks in later life. Original reports using qualitative methodology are also welcome.

Authors are welcome to contact the guest editor (Isabelle.Albert(at)uni.lu) in advance in order to identify possible topics. Papers will be due for submission by September 1, 2019 and will undergo a full process of peer review. All manuscripts have to be submitted electronically via the online submission system www.editorialmanager.com/geropsych/. Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the journal’s author guidelines available in the downloads section below.
